SiTF SEC Chapter

BACKGROUND

Formed in 2001, the Singapore Enterprise Chapter (SEC) caters to the holistic development of Singapore infocomm companies. The SEC is also the biggest chapter in SiTF.

The SEC’s key domain areas include:

  • Local enterprise development
  • Local infocomm product development
  • Regionalization of local infocomm companies
  • Development of the China market
  • Capability development
  • Forging internationalization

MAJOR ACTIVITIES

Since its formation, the SEC has added value to our members by focusing our efforts on the following areas of development:

Market Development

The SEC helps member companies to expand their business into overseas markets. Many of these efforts are promoted under the ‘Made in Singapore & Proud of IT’ branding. These include:

  • Singapore Solution Center (SSC) in Shanghai (China). Supported by the IDA, this S$3million project gives SEC members a foothold into the China market. It combines a strong ‘Made in Singapore’ branding with a unique clustering strategy to give participating companies the recognition, size and scale to pursue business opportunities in China.
  • SiTEX: SiTEX has become the definitive consumer digital lifestyle show in Singapore bettering its own performance benchmarks year after year.
  • Overseas Business Missions: SEC organizes regular business missions to help member companies expand into the regional markets. Past missions to China, Thailand and Vietnam have helped members identify potential business partners in Singapore.
  • PROFIT Directory: The Directory of SEC members forms a valuable reference and marketing resource for companies seeking potential vendors or business partners in Singapore.
  • Business Matching Seminars with Canadian Companies and China Zhe Jiang Environment.
  • Strategic Alliances with overseas partners provide reciprocal promotions and market development efforts and business matching opportunities for SEC members. One good example is a MOU signed with Hangzhou East Software Park (HZESP) and Jinan Province.
  • Close Partnership with most trade Embassies: Canada, US, UK, Australia, NZ, Sri Lanka, China.
  • Business Networking Luncheon with GCIO's: SiTF's Singapore Enterprise Chapter (SEC) organized an exclusive industry luncheon for SEC members to network with CIOs from the government ministries and agencies who were present at the IDA event, “Industry Briefing on Business Opportunities for IT in the Public Sector”. At least 50 government CIOs and relevant government representatives attended the special luncheon. It provided excellent opportunity for SiTF members to mingle with some of the top decision-markers for ICT projects in the government sectors as well as interact with some of the captains of our ICT industry!
  • Harnessing Innovation & New Technologies:
An increasingly competitive market demands that companies harness more innovation and technologies to generate exciting new commercial opportunities, revenues and retain their competitive edges. The first-ever NUS-SiTF Technology Showcase is part of the NUS’s on-going efforts to increase industry awareness of the cutting edge research & technologies that are generated constantly from University research. The technologies covered include the areas of mobile communications, mixed reality, computer networking, biometrics, generative design and interactive media.

It provides a platform for industry and investors to access nascent technologies and an excellent opportunity to foster interaction and networking amongst high-tech entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, business angels and researchers where business development opportunities such as licensing or collaborative research can be explored.

The event is highly recommended for IT professionals, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, investors, technology brokers, industry players and anyone who needs to keep up-to-date with cutting edge developments in the IT industry
  • Crossing the Chasm Professional Workshop:
A 3 days Crossing the Chasm Professional Workshop have been informative and a great learning experience to all participants. The interaction level is extremely high as most participants were from senior management that came from different background with REAL LIFE experience in the ICT industry.
  • Golden Branding Opportunity
“ Beyond the competition and awards, APICTA 2006 provides a golden opportunity for our contestants to market and brand their products and companies to a highly-targeted regional audience,” said Goh Chin Teck, APICTA 2006 Singapore Chairman. “These opportunities provide a far greater benefit to our participation than the awards themselves.”
  • Recognition as the Regional Best in ICT: Health Promotion Board’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lam Pin Woon said, “HPB’s Student Health Assessment Programme (SHAPE) and Integrated Dental Electronic Assessment for Students (IDEAS) is an integrated patient-centric clinical management system for our school medical and dental service. SHAPE and IDEAS manages about one million medical, vision and dental screening records and captures 300,000 immunization records annually. It has radically improved both clinical care and customer service as well as our front desk services, resulting in 50% savings in patient registration time. The system has also reduced administrative burden which has translated to cost-savings of, 6,500 man-days per year from manual preparation of treatment charts, compilation of work returns and appointment scheduling.

Capability Development

SEC members benefit from a regular program of talks, seminars and other Business Intelligence events to equip them with the knowledge and skills to develop their business. These include:

  • Talks on Branding by the Singapore Management University (SMU); Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Management by IPOS.
  • Business Intelligence Roundtable by Exploit Technologies
  • Industry Seminars on Logistics; “Exploring Uncharted Ground” with IE Singapore and IDA

All applicants must be SiTF members. Non-SiTF members can apply for SiTF membership together with Chapter membership and admission to the SECC is contingent on the approval of SiTF membership.
